#ThrowbackThursday

I remember being in Italy when this came out and I thought it was the coolest thing.  I didn't even know what W was.  Ah the good ol days.  Now, six years later, I know W is still awesome, but David and Victoria's hair was def not.  Chunky white highlights?  Her hair has to be

I still like the shoot today though.  It was super sexy and cutting edge for the married couple (at the time, now it's pretty tame) and they have since done similar shoots as their stars have risen in American fashion.  This is arguably their break through from just normal tabloid celebrities to high fashion A list  celebrities (in America).  Go them.  Read the article here and see the rest of the shoot here (and some other not so glammed up 90s-tastic shots of them).

Beau Date Friday: Robert Redford

The original prince charming.  I am embarrassed to say that I saw one of his movies (probably The Way We Were or The Great Gatsby) and was like WHO IS THIS GUY.  He's almost as hot as Brad Pitt.  This is a mistake I shall never make again, he is hotter than Brad Pitt and was Brad Pitt before Brad Pitt.

Love it.

This is a shot by Annie Leibovitz from the cover story on last month's edition of Vogue.  Fantastic.  And I haven't even seen Homeland.

Music Monday: Lauryn Hill's "Doo Wop (That Thing)"

This music video is awesome.  I remember seeing it for the first time and being totally blown away by the split screen.  Lauryn is in the 50s/60s and the 90s?  COOL.  Technology.

Beau Date Friday: Chuck and Blair

Whatever rest of you GG characters.  Chuck and Blair are the best.  I would go on infinite amounts of New York (because they couldn't really exist anywhere else, let's be honest.  Can you imagine them in the south? haha) dates with them.

Exhibit 1- Walk in Central Park (Chuck with his dog, Blair with her bread to feed the ducks) and picnic with Darota (because you can't go anywhere without your personal maid)
Exhibit 2- Laduree macaroons, shopping with Blair and meeting up with Chuck for lunch after Bergdorfs
Exhibit 3- Dinner at somewhere impossible to get into (there's always at least five of those in NY) and drinks at some ridiculous ritzy bar

I'm Sort of a Sass (Case 48093280)

Mom- "So I ran into the Smith twins today."
Me- (no response)
Mom- "Both of them are married, did you know that?"
Me- "No, I think both of them unfriended me on Facebook."
Mom- "What!? Why would anyone do something like that!?"
Me- "I don't know."
Mom- "Well you know who else got married today?"
Me- (no response)
Mom- "Lilly Bird."
Me- "Yeah I saw it in Facebook."
Mom- "I think we need to set you up on a blind date.  I'm going to do it."
Me- "I don't think so.  I don't trust your judgement."
Mom- "What is that supposed to mean?"
Me- "Exactly what it sounds like."

Goodbye Summer...

It's August.  The nights smell like the end of summer.  But is it really gone?  New York weather is always a tease.

So.  That said.  Here's an old Vogue photo.

Things I Want....

The Calvin Klein Collection dress with the cross back buckle straps that Claire Danes wears in her Vogue cover spread in the September issue.  Obsessed with those straps, the color and the pleating.  Fan-tastic.

Beau Date Friday: Lesbian Edition Cara Delevingne

She's British, she's a super model, she's more interesting-looking than the average model of today, she was great in her Burberry ads, she's a little grunge baby when she's not in high fashion attire and she has awesome eyebrows.  What's not to love?  She also is quirky and makes the best goof faces when she's not modeling, just check out her instagram @caradelevingne.
PS here's the style file on Vogue where I stole all of these photos from.
PPS I mean, and, she's modeled with Pharrell.  Can't get much cooler than that.

Awesome Movie of the Day: The Darjeeling Limited

I really like Wes Anderson's movies in general, but this one is definitely my favorite.

Primarily this movie makes me nostalgic and I miss my two younger sisters (Owen Wilson's character and I have a lot more in common that I would probably like to admit).  Anderson nails the sibling dynamic so well that even if you don't necessarily have the same number of siblings or you aren't all the aren't the same gender, there is something relatable in this movie for you- brothers and sisters have seen each other at their worst and best and know exactly which buttons to push to set each other off.

In this movie these three brothers haven't seen each other in awhile because they've become adults with other commitments.  They go on a trip to India where they wind up reverting back to their childhood dynamic (I would argue the typical dynamic of oldest, middle and youngest) that they had when they were children.  At first they all fight it, comfortable with their new lives as an adult individual, not as one of three, and not wanting to be the child they used to be.  However, as the movie goes on and the characters face various troubles we learn a lot about the way they were raised even though their parents aren't seen for most of the film (the father not at all).  You can tell in the way they all do certain things simultaneously without thinking.

They end up realizing how they are able to lean on each other and get an understanding and acceptance only a sibling can provide.

Anyways.  I'm sure this is a slightly bit confusing, but watch it.  It's a nostalgic ridden movie that will make you think of all of these familial situations you haven't thought of in years.  In a good way.

Hiccups- Boy Bands

All I need is a good gif.  Better yet a ridiculous gif.  So here are some wonderful 90s boy band retrospective gifs.  Enjoy.

Boy band music videos always have these sweeping panorama shots with the guys spreading their arms out to... something, I'm not sure what exactly.  AND they always put the ugly dude in the back.  Poor guy.  PS I hated 98 Degree's obsession with turtle necks and man sweaters.  Quit it.

If you don't remember that pubescent teenage and early twenties boys make up boy bands you should begin to understand from this.  And... you start to also realize why girl groups that age never work out for the same reason.  Guys are like bro lets goof off and girls are like you stole my crush I saw him first I can't even be in the same room as you.  We're over.

Made you look.  I got this when I searched boy bands and I LOVE IT.

Such emotion and commitment Boyz 2 Men.  It's sorta creepy that guy just rises from the ground in passion.  PS those outfits.

Jez.us.

Too funny.  Especially when you realize this was part of a dance that was incorporated into a music video teenage girls obsessively watched.

Oooops.  Now we're current.  But are we really?  What's different?

Stressful day at work?  Here are my go to friends for quiet- Gregory Alan Isakov and Ray Lamontagne.

Beau Date Friday: The Avengers

Here is a quick jam of my favorite Avengers.  I guess our date would involve being saved all day?  Or I assisting them all in saving the world?  I would want lightning as my superpower if anyone is asking.  Just saying.  Um, anyways, first up-

Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man.  My fav.  Nothing like a talk back know it all superhero.  They can't just all be muscle, equal parts muscle and sassy smarty pants are the best.

Chris Evans as Captain America.  Just cause he's cute.  And says ma'am a lot.  However, in my Googling, I'm noticing a trend of white superheroes.  What's up with that.
I guess except for Samuel L, the biggest sasser of them all.

Then there's Thor.

But ACTUALLY.  Tom Hiddleston who plays Loki (Thor's brother) in The Avengers is quite the looker... when he doesn't have the receding hairline and cringingly awful slick back shoe polish black dye job that involves being Loki.

AND.  He did this awesome photo shoot with Cara Devevinge for Vogue.

Ok got a wee bit side tracked there.  The End.
